Therapeutic Approach
People come to therapy for many different reasons — feeling overwhelmed, struggling with anxiety or low mood, navigating relationship difficulties, facing life transitions, addictions, or carrying the effects of past stress or trauma. My work focuses on helping the nervous system regain regulation so that you can meet life with greater stability, clarity and choice.
To begin with, I need some context, which develops through conversation. I want to hear about your concerns and what you hope to gain from therapy. I am also interested in the resources in your life — the things, people, pets, places or memories that sustain, soothe or enliven you. We move at a pace that feels workable for you and your nervous system — steady enough to allow change, but not so fast that you become overwhelmed.
Rather than moving straight into the heart of trauma, we work gently around the edges of difficult experiences, allowing integration to unfold naturally over time. As the nervous system begins to settle, new ways of experiencing yourself, others and the world can become possible.
Somatic Experiencing principles provide the main foundation for my work, and as early as possible we begin developing grounding and regulation skills. It is important to establish this capacity before approaching more difficult material. You will learn to notice the “felt sense” within your body by tracking bodily sensations and internal signals. As a sense of safety increases, deeper exploration can gradually become possible.
I draw on the different modalities in which I am trained according to what is needed in the moment. The aim is to help you shift out of automatic survival responses so that you can engage with your life, relationships and decisions with greater presence and agency.
